Samsung seems to be all over the market when it comes to electronics. From cell phones and TVs to Blu-ray players and more, Samsung has become a household name over the last 10 years and they don’t seem to show any signs of slowing down. While people tend to automatically gravitate towards Sony or Pioneer, others are discovering the greatness that is Samsung. With economically priced players that are absolutely loaded with options, you really can’t go wrong. On many fronts, Samsung is at the leading edge of new and innovative Blu-ray technology which allows them to deliver fairly priced units with features that are unheard of on most of the high-end models. The BD-H5900 has really caught our eye recently for its quality-to-value ratio and today we’re going to talk a bit about it. Region-Free Samsung BD-H5900As all of the models we review, we’re working with a modified Samsung BD-H5900.
Completely region-free, it plays both DVD and Blu-ray Discs from any region in the world. It also features worldwide voltage which means it can operate anywhere in the world. Furthermore, built-in PAL/NTSC conversion ensures you’ll never need any type of video converter – this player can truly play any disc, from anywhere in the world, on any TV. In itself, that’s a huge value but there’s plenty of other reasons to take a second look at the BD-H5900.3D PlaybackThis one is huge.
As 3D begins to become more popular in the home environment, more movie titles will be available. Even if you don’t own a 3D TV, they’re likely to become much more affordable in the next couple years as we’ve already seen a massive price drop since the introduction of the 3D home TV. A Blu-ray with 3D capability is an important component to a legit home theater. Built in Wi-FiWait, you’re telling me the player connects to Wi-Fi wirelessly? Of course, and it’s not very uncommon with the newer Blu-ray players. It allows you to surf the web, use your favorite apps, connect to games, utilize smartphones/tablets/PCs for media sharing and more.
If you’re serious about access to streaming media and apps, then Wi-fi is critical. The features and capabilities of wireless networking for the home theater have absolutely exploded in recent years. What used to simply play discs for your TV screen now does the work of a all-in-one network entertainment system.
Samsung did the right thing by equipping the BD-H5900 with Wi-Fi. Media, Media and More MediaThe formats supported by this player are impressive, and they should be. If Samsung had offered the BD-H5900 Blu-ray player with such awesome networking features but a lack of capability in the area of playback, it would completely defeat the purpose. Our phones, tablets, laptops, cameras and PCs are loaded with different types of media, all with its own format.
Images, movies, music and more – they each have multiple file formats and this model can play them all. From AVI and AVCHD to MKV, WMV9, MP4, MPEG1/2 and more, you’re probably not going to introduce a file that’s not compatible. Having that confidence is important and it matters a lot when making a purchase – especially for those of us that are always sharing new media.
DLNA support? This is Samsung. Awesome Audio and Veracious Video PerformanceWhat’s left? Well, audio & video of course. The two major components that a Blu-ray player has to have to officially be a Blu-ray Player.
Don’t worry, Samsung didn’t skimp out on the audio or video quality while offering up all the other juicy features. Cutting edge audio like Dolby TrueHD, DTS Surround & DTS-HD with bitstream output lend lifelike audio quality right in your home. Visually, 1080P Full HD is obviously standard and there’s even an up-conversion feature that actually increases the quality of Non-HD DVDs to 1080p making them as close to Blu-ray quality as possible. Now that’s cool! HDMI Output and a USB 2.0 port guarantees the highest quality images available for all your favorite media, whether on disc or on a hard drive. OverallThe player has a nice design, a comfortable remote control (which is better than we can say for many others) and is extremely affordable at $199. And yes, $199 is the price for our Region-Free Model.
3D, Wi-Fi for streaming media & sharing, DLNA compatibility and more on a player that plays any DVD or Blu-ray Disc from anywhere in the world, regardless of voltage and is guaranteed to work on any PAL or NTSC TV? That’s practically priceless, which makes $199 a steal!Check out the today from 220 Electronics. You’ll be glad you picked this one up, we feel it’s a solid investment.IMPORTANT: Please note that Blu-ray Players are NOT produced as Region Free from the manufacturer, and are NOT available in major retail stores. Region Free units require professional hardware & software modification and are only sold by specialty retailers. Be sure to check the player’s specifications before making a purchase to ensure the player is being advertised and sold as a unit with region free capability. Hi,I bought a Samsung Blue Ray player last September and worked fine as I watched mostly Indian films burned in Canada.
Yesterday I received some DVD’s from my country that says it could play from 1 through 6 regions but when I tried playing it says the disk is not compatible. When I checked the back of the DVD player it is marked region 1 and definitely this DVD should play but it doesn’t.
Then I went to a friends place and tried in a LG blueray player which is marked region 1 at the back and without any problem the DVD played. Why does n’t this DVD play in my Samsung BD-H5900. Please advice.
